Start?
So, I finally managed to clean up the basic wordpress installation I had set up. How to proceed now? The number one item I want to get done next is to set up a personal RSS aggregator as a start. I am still looking for recommendations for that, for now I think something like http://simplepie.org/, which is also available as Wordpress plugin apparantly, might work.
Then further subpages and additional missing information will follow in time — in times means “not tomorrow” or “whenever I feel like it”. Pick whatever you like.
The first thing to note is that I do not want to set up another craptastic blog with entries about how aunt Marry has broken her arm. In turn this site will not be an only diary.
I will not include a blogroll. To be honest I never understood the purpose of a “blogroll”. I see the main purpose of links to provide additional information in the form of a connection to another page or to group related pages — a reference or navigation element. Say I would write about some really obscure topic, then it might make sense to include a link to the relevant wikipedia page (also from the point of organizing knowledge). However, the only thing that a blogroll is useful for according to Blogossary is: “A blogroll is a list of links to other blogs or websites that the author of the blog regularly likes to read.” And ultimately that is also the only kind of information it conveys — personal preference. It does not reflect anything about the content, it merely reflects your interests and possibly social relations. Whether this is information you want to expose or you think is worthwile for the rest of the world is up to you. I am not that important and 90% of blogs are just a bunch of text content as well. Nothing to see, move along.
Content from this blog will be made available in usefull alternative formats to HTML. I yet have to decide on details, do not ask but make suggestions if you want to.
